The Maritimes 4 , VIC, Australia, Sep 2018
The Maritimes are rich in both geography and history. The tour ranged from the rocky coastline with its lighthouses to the wooded inland, with stops in the villages and towns in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Cabot Island and Prince Edward Island (a must for the fans of Anne with an E). Highlights included; the Cabot Trail, Cadillac, the Fisheries Museum ...read more in in Lunenburg (where the fate of the cod fishing industry was described), the guided tour of Halifax (along with the visit to the graves of the dead from the Titanic, the memorial to the victims of the 1917 explosion of a munitions ship and the Citadel), the Alexander Graham Bell Museum, the ‘hookers’ of Cheticamp and, of course, Green Gables. Architecture buffs will appreciate the changing styles of the buildings from Maine to Prince Edward Island.

Travelling during the North American Fall, with the trees changing colour, was an added bonus. The accommodation (apart from the last night) was superior and the meals provided as part of the tour did not disappoint (unless you don’t like lobster and scallops). I also liked the free time to potter and explore at our various stops.

However, a trip like this depends on the tour director and the driver. I had prepaid the gratuities for both and felt that neither really deserved them, especially the driver who knew only two speeds: fast and stop. Nor did he see it as his job to clean the coach on a regular basis.

The tour director sometimes gave information on locations visited, at others not, leaving us with a very patchy sense of the historical and geographical significance of places visited. Nor did she make any arrangements for stops for group members to photograph the changing colours of autumn. Yet, neither director nor driver could detract from the extraordinary beauty of the Maritimes. As for Global Journeys: to use an old Australian expression, their blood is worth bottling. Thanks Jemma.
13 Day Maritmes ADventure (Globus) 7 , QLD, Australia, Jul 2016
Unfortunately we found this trip quite boring, we are aware of the distances between stops and attractions etc, but we spent way to much time on the coach seeing practically nothing, then when we did seem to stop at something interesting the time allowed there did not seem adequate, when at times we would stop for 1 1/2 hours for lunch (no packed lunches ...read more at all). Our driver was excellent, a very courteous and polite gentleman, again unfortunately our Tour Director was not we felt up to the standard we experienced on our last Globus trip, this was not only felt by us but by others in the group. There was some tension between individuals and the Tour Director which was felt throughout the group.

We also felt that arriving at our destination many times at around 6pm was way to late for people to relax etc, any dinners provided were usually around 6.30pm so again rushed and then no time to yourselves. Dinners and at times breakfasts provided were also not to the same standard as previous tour, this could also be said for some of the latter hotels, apart from the Blue Nose INN and the Alquonquin (which were excellent) we felt that the hotels went downhill as the tour progressed, the last hotel being the somewhat jaded. Also the Welcome night and the farewell dinner, was again we felt not up to the standard we had appreciated on previous tour, the farewell dinner was very ordinary. We and others on the tour felt that as we had already prepaid our gratuities we had done ourselves an injustice, not for the Coach Driver but for the Tour Director. We were also concerned as to whether the Tour Director would have been capable of handling any kind of physical emergency had it occurred. There was no provision on the coach for water bottles etc either. Which is usually provided. Local guides were excellent at stops where they were provided, very knowledgeable and entertaining, enjoyed this part of the trip.
We are so happy that we selected this tour 2 , QLD, Australia, Sep 2014
We are so happy that we selected this tour based on possibly catching some of those much-touted 'Fall' colours. They were quite elusive due to a very mild season, but both our tour guide, Chris, and coach driver, Bob, promised they would find them, and find them they did - spectacularly so. In fact, Bob, a keen photographer, went out of his way (literally) ...read more to find us the perfect location for the perfect shot time and time again resulting in lots of Happy Snappers. The downside of the tour was the daily distances of up to 450kms necessary to cover the itinerary, but Canada being the size it is, there's really no option if you want to see what the Eastern Maritimes have to offer. The almost new coach was very comfortable, and seating was rotated regularly as is routine these days. Even on our longest travelling days, our stops were varied and interesting. We were blessed with almost perfect weather throughout the trip which was a real bonus. It was impossible to pick a favourite destination from Lovely Lunenberg with its startlingly coloured houses; Pretty Peggy's Cove - a quintessential fishing village; Historical Halifax with its connections to the Titanic along with its own horrendous explosion of 1917, or Progressive Prince Edward Island which so cleverly combines past traditions with future aspirations. And we all loved Anne with an E, both the house and gardens, but especially the outstanding show that had us alternately laughing and crying. The inclusive lobster and scallop dinners were outstanding, as was the selected accommodation. Having our luggage magically whisked away and deposited back to our next night's room was the 'cherry on the cake' of this Pamper Package. We have to say that Canada and this tour did not disappoint in any way and can thoroughly recommend both.
