Overview

Read 6 reviews and enjoy exclusive savings on Globus 11 Day Italian Treasures. “Wherefore art thou, Romeo?” Who can resist uttering these words in medieval Verona, the romantic setting for Shakespeare’s tragic love story? But thoughts will soon turn from romance to Roman ruins, medieval towns, floating cities, and gastronomic delights. All of these treasures and more are right here on this sparkling tour of Italy. Filled with the country’s famous jewels and hidden gems, this dazzling tour leads you from Rome to Venice and back again, with time in the sultry...read more Italian Riviera, vineyard-dotted Tuscany, and picturesque Umbria, Tuscany’s “gentler sister.”

Savour a boat ride along the dramatic Cinque Terre coastline with its pastel-hued fishing villages, stroll through the serene streets of Assisi, and sip Chianti in a Tuscan cantina. Michelangelo’s David, the Leaning Tower of Pisa, and the perfectly preserved medieval town of San Gimignano are more reasons this tour of Italy truly shines.

Itinerary

Welcome to Rome!

At 5 pm, meet your Tour Director and travel companions for a welcome dinner at a local restaurant. (D)

Italian Treasures

ROME: Guided sightseeing includes the Vatican Museums, and the Sistine Chapel. Visit St. Peter's Square and Basilica to admire Michelangelo's Pieta, the Colosseum, and see the Roman Forum. Free time late afternoon and evening. (B)

TOUR HIGHLIGHT - LEGENDARY LIVES: Stand in awe and wonder amid one of mankind's greatest artistic achievements in the Sistine Chapel. Hear how in 1508, a young Michelangelo was commissioned by Pope Julius II to decorate the chapel's ceiling - a request not welcomed by the 33-year-old sculptor. Michelangelo's 4-year project was indeed one of physical pain and psychological distress, while painting from scaffolds high above the sanctuary floor. Nevertheless, he created what is considered the most famous ceiling in the world, depicting the Creation of Adam in striking fresco style.

Roman Rulers

LUCCA: Enjoy an orientation walk, followed by free time. (B) 217 mi/ 350 km

TOUR HIGHLIGHT - CULTURAL GEMS: Within the walls surrounding the medieval city of Lucca, the modern world fades away. Whilst you walk, see the Piazza Anfiteatro, San Michele Square, the Roman Amphitheatre, the soaring clock tower, and the Guinigi Tower topped with a hanging garden roof - just to name a few of the impressive sights you'll find in this historic city in Tuscany.

The Italian Riviera

Depart for a scenic drive en route to La Spezia.

CINQUE TERRE: Take a guided boat ride (weather permitting) to Monterosso, with free time before boarding your train for La Spezia.

PISA: See the Leaning Tower en route back to Lucca. (B/D) 155 mi/ 250 km

LOCAL FAVOURITE - EPIC RIDE: Take a stunning cruise on the coast of Cinque Terre and take in fascinating views of the sea, sky, and centuries-old seaside villages on the rugged Italian Riviera coastline.

Tuscany's Terra Bella

SIENA: An orientation walk includes Piazza del Campo.

SAN GIMIGNANO: Take an orientation walk with free time for lunch.

VERRAZZANO: Enjoy wine tasting with local specialties. (B) 186 mi / 300 km

LOCAL FAVOURITE - LOCAL TASTES: Visit the heart of the Chianti Classico area, between Florence and Siena, and taste the tradition of winemaking with regional specialties enjoyed in the vineyards of this beautiful landscape for centuries.

Florentine Favourites

FLORENCE: Guided sightseeing includes Michelangelo's masterpiece, David, at the Academy of Fine Arts, Giotto's Bell Tower, the Baptistry's heavy bronze "Gates of Paradise," and Signoria Square. Free time this afternoon and evening. (B)

TOUR HIGHLIGHT - ART & ARCHITECTURE: Those lucky enough to visit the Tuscan capital are witness to some of the world's most magnificent. Home to a wealth of Rennaissance masterpieces, Florence is famous for Michelangelo's Marble Masterpiece, David, standing ready for battle in the Academy of Fine Arts. Outside, the Piazza del Duomo and Signoria Square offer spectacular sights of Florentine Gothic and Renaissance art, architecture, and monuments.

Ladies & Gentlemen of Verona

VERONA: An orientation walk includes Piazza delle Erbe and Piazza Bra to admire the Arena. Free time for lunch before continuing to Venice.

VENICE ISLAND: Take a private boat ride on the canals (B) 242 mi / 390 km

TOUR HIGHLIGHT - CULTURE & TRADITION: Stroll through the grand piazzas of Verona, where the tradition of La Passeggiata (leisurely stroll) is alive and well near the site of the ancient forum. Where fruits, vegetables, and spices once filled the market squares, now eateries and shops share the space with the ancient arts of sumptuous fountains, monuments, architecture, and people-watching.

Benvenuti a Venezia

VENICE ISLAND A: guided walking tour includes St. Mark's Square and Basilica, Doge's Palace, and the Bridge of Sighs, followed by a glassblowing demonstration. Free time this afternoon and evening. (B)

TOUR HIGHLIGHT - HISTORIC SPOT: Locals simply call Piazza San Marco "la piazza." As paired with the smaller Piazzetta, it forms the social, religious, and political hub of Venice, which Napoleon called "the drawing room of Europe." St. Mark's Basilica dominates the square, offering visitors a spectacular view of the great arches, marble embellishments, and the Romanesque carvings of its facade.

Also gracing the square is Doge's Palace - a masterpiece of Venetian Gothic architecture. The enclosed Bridge of Sighs, connecting the palace with the prison, is named for the prisoners breathing in their last view of the Rio di Palazzo on their walk to the prison's interrogation rooms.

Medieval Marvels

Scenic drive through the Apennine Mountains en route to Assisi.

ASSISI: Guided walking tour includes St. Clare's Church and St. Francis' Basilica. (B/D) 267 mi / 430 km

TOUR HIGHLIGHT - ICONIC FOOTSTEPS: Walk in the footsteps of St. Francis of Assisi with a visit to the Basilica named after the deacon, friar, and mystic, who became one of the most venerated religious figures in Christianity. Revered for his love of the Eucharist and the Earth, Francis found communion with God through nature here in this Italian village where he lived and died. Marvel at the magnificent frescoes by Italian master Giotto that adorn the Basilica where the Saint is buried.

Parting is Sweet Sorrow

ORVIETO: Enjoy a local pastries tasting at renowned Caffe Montanucci, a historic Pasticceria. An orientation walk includes the cathedral with free time to visit San Brizio Chapel.

ROME: Join in a farewell dinner at a local restaurant (B/D) 137 mi/ 220 km

LOCAL FAVOURITE - LOCAL TASTES: The historic Pasticceria of Caffe Montanucci has been open every morning for 100 years, delighting the sweet tooths of pastry lovers in the heart of Orvieto. Only the Municipality, the Bank, the Church can claim the same, earning "the old bar" the status of institution in the old city. While the world has changed in many ways over the century, the important things have remained the same at the caffe - a haven where generations of guests rely on its traditional coffee, cappuccino, semolina cake, pastry ice cream, and chocolates to win their hearts every time.

Safe travels until we meet again!

Your holiday ends with breakfast this morning. (B)

Wonderful tour   1 , QLD, Australia, May 2019
If this is your first time to see Italy, this 11 day Italian Treasures tour, organised by Globus, is undoubtedly a wise choice. The tour includes many attractive destinations so every spot visited was a highlight.

We are lucky to have Hannah Campbell who has already organised 3 consecutive years of our overseas holidays. She is great and always replies to emails promptly and patiently.

For the tour in Italy, there was a huge number of tourists at every hot destination so the long waiting lines and big crowds would sometimes get on our nerves, but it indicates that you are visiting the most important venues. The Italian tour guide, “Fabulous”, this is the name our fellow travellers called him. He organised every step based on the brochure.
Absolutely wonderful!   5 , New Zealand, Jul 2016
We booked the Italian Treasures tour as it featured the top locations and historical sites ie. Rome, Vatican, Cinque Terra, Venice & Assisi. Our travel period was peak time in Italy, summer holidays, and would have been difficult without the tour. We where fortunate to have a fantastic tour guide, Giampero Filadoro, and made some good friends ...read more with others on the tour. The tour was well organised and we did not experience any problems. It is difficult to list one highlight as all of Italy is beautiful. Venice was like a movie set! St Marks Square at night with the music and people is amazing. Cinque Terra is not to be missed . We opted for all excursions and that proved a good choice. Thank you to Leanne at Global Journeys for arranging a wonderful, stress free holiday. We will be using Global journeys for future bookings.
The tour was wonderful and we had a fantastic Tour guide 7 , NSW, Australia, Jul 2015
The tour was wonderful and we were very lucky to have a fantastic Tour guide, Aida, who was very passionate about Italian culture and Italian food. The coach driver, Rocco, was excellent and we felt very safe at all times. The highlights were the Cinque Terre boat excursion, the visit to Verona with the arena, Juliet's balcony and a lovely fountain ...read more plus Assisi and of course Venice! The hotel in Venice, Palazzo Selvadego, was right next to St Mark's square allowing direct access to the square at night to listen to the lovely jazz music plus easy access in the morning to take great photos before all the tourist crowds arrive. The hotel breakfast was served in The Monaco Grand Hotel closeby which was directly on the waterfront with spectacular views. The Hotel Giotto in Assisi had a lovely terrace with beautiful views in the day plus lovely sparkling lights in the distance at night. The Global Journeys website was wonderful for comparing the different tours of Italy with the other companies. The tour documents arrived in the mail six weeks before the tour and emails were answered quickly. I have already booked another tour with Global Journeys as the discounts are fantastic.
Thank you for a great holiday 1 , Australia, Jun 2013
Only 29 on our tour was a great plus - very comfortable bus and having wifi was great. Our tour guide was a lovely lady with a lot of knowledge and very well organised. We were relieved there were other Aussies on the tour - that makes a big difference. We were a little disappointed in having the evening meal at two locations at 5pm. We felt this was ...read more far too early. Our only other disappointment was the accommodation at Assisi was very poor with very uncomfortable beds (complaint made by many at breakfast) and our bedroom faced the main road into the old city hence we did not sleep very well. All other accommodation was excellent and the optional activities were also good fun. We would highly recommend Globus tours to any of our friends. Thank you for a great holiday.
I would recommend this coach tour! 1 , Australia, May 2013
The Tour Italian Treasures was great, most places visited were excellent with a couple maybe could have bypassed. Loved the inclusion on Cinque Terre - could have spent longer there and bypassed Pisa. Tour guide was excellent and the whole group on the tour were great. I would recommend this coach tour!
All fears vanished as soon as I commenced the tour 2 , Australia, Apr 2011
Thanks to Yvonne from Global Journeys for making my trip possible. I had particularly wanted to go on the Italian Treasures tour on the 12th April and after enquiring through several agencies was told it was booked out. During the ten days we were all looked after so well by the tour guide and even the driver of the bus. The itinerary was not too rushed and we had ample time for sightseeing and retail therapy. The tour guide was exceptional in explaining the history of the places we visited. I loved the tour and had a lot of fun and a great time as we all got on so well. I was a little hesitant at the thought of travelling on my own but all fears vanished as soon as I commenced the tour. I can't wait to book my next trip with Global Journeys. I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone wishing to see Italy.
