Itinerary

Welcome to the "Windy City." Your Tour Director is on hand late this afternoon to answer any questions.

Included sightseeing shows off the city's landmarks, then an afternoon at leisure. Maybe ride the elevator to the top of Willis Tower (formerly the Sears Tower) or stroll along Michigan Avenue, better known as the Magnificent Mile. In the evening, perhaps enjoy one of Chicago's legendary blues clubs.

Travel across the fertile Illinois farmlands to St. Louis, "Gateway to the West." An orientation tour includes a trip to the top of the Gateway Arch National Park, which commemorates the city's key role in westward expansion. Visit the museum under the Arch, celebrating Lewis & Clark's famous expedition 200 years ago.

Recross the Mississippi River today and roll southeast to Paducah, Kentucky on the Ohio River. Late-afternoon arrival in Nashville. (B)

Start the day with a sightseeing tour of Nashville's famous landmarks and the Music Row recording studios. Tour historic RCA Studio B, cradle of the 1960s "Nashville Sound" where stars such as Dolly Parton, Elvis Presley, Eddy Arnold, Willie Nelson, and the Everly Brothers recorded many of their biggest hits. Afterward, visit the Country Music Hall of Fame with its glittering costumes, rare instruments, and Elvis' "solid-gold" Cadillac! Tonight, enjoy reserved seating for a show at the world-famous Grand Ole Opry, a mecca for country musicians.

Visit the Tina Turner Museum in the one-room schoolhouse attended by a young Anna Mae Bullock (a.k.a. Tina Turner). See the collection of the "Queen of Rock's" memorabilia, including costumes, gold records and even her high school yearbook! Afterward, cross Tennessee to Memphis, "Home of the Blues" and a city with a distinct Southern flavor. Enjoy an orientation tour on arrival and see where scenes from the film Walk the Line were filmed. Consider the optional excursion to Sun Studio, where rock ‘n' roll was first recorded, followed by dinner at a local restaurant.

A good portion of the day is devoted to Graceland, Elvis Presley's beautiful estate. Your guided audio tour focuses on the memorial garden, and the opulent 15,000-square-foot mansion. Also see Elvis' custom jets and his Favourite automobiles! Return to Memphis mid-afternoon and, if you haven't done so already, get a taste of Memphis with some southern barbecue or visit the Rock 'n' Soul Museum near historic Beale Street.

Today, make your way through the state of Mississippi. Visit the B.B. King Museum and Delta Interpretive centre. Discover the life of B.B. (Blues Boy) King, from his humble beginnings to his big break on Beale Street in Memphis. An evening arrival in New Orleans allows the opportunity for exploring this lively city on your own.

A full morning is dedicated to the sights and sounds of New Orleans, featuring a guided tour that includes the French Quarter landmarks, St. Louis Cathedral, Jackson Square, and a visit to a unique above-ground cemetery. This afternoon, join an optional tour of one of the many plantation homes in southern Louisiana. The architecture and beauty of these homes alone is impressive and the stories that go with them are even better.

This evening, perhaps join an optional Mississippi River dinner cruise, and enjoy a delightful buffet dinner complete with live jazz-the perfect finale to a memorable touring adventure of the South.

Your holiday ends this morning. You may choose to extend your holiday with extra nights and explore the "Big Easy" further.

Dixieland Rythmns and Blues Tour   3 , Victoria , Australia, Sep 2019
This being our very first tour, it was very good. Our Tour Director (Melanie Wagner) was very good. The coach driver (Jonathan) was very good and we felt very safe with his driving abilities. The tour over all was about the right time, although a couple of places we could have done an extra day, as it was very fast and short. The only complaint is the ...read more Inn of Chicago was a little tired as the room was looking old, the carpet needed to be replaced as it had holes in.
Dixieland & Rhythms 2 , WA, Australia, Jun 2019
I would be happy to tour with Globus again. Highlights were the St Louis Arch, Nashville and Gracelands. Our accommodation was excellent.
Great trip if you love music. 6 , NSW, Australia, Sep 2017
If you love music then this holiday is for you. Hotels were comfortable and the upgrade to the Graceland Guest House was perfect, Cosmos should offer more music options in Chicago as there are many blues related facilities which were never mentioned and we discovered by ourselves. Recommend additional days to explore.

Wonderful for Elvis fans, like myself!   9 , WA, Australia, Jun 2017
This tour is an excellent one for lovers of country music, rock, rhythm & blues and jazz. It's especially wonderful for Elvis fans, like myself! The pace is not an easy one; for example you have to negotiate many steps at the Gateway Arch, so a good level of fitness is required. Most of the people on this tour were in their 50s, 60s and early 70s. ...read more At 73 years, I was the second oldest. Consider myself reasonably active but don't think I would want to have done this tour in say, a couple of years from now. Some days, particularly those in Nashville and Memphis, were rather tiring, especially if you were doing the optional tours as well.

My group consisted of 27 Australians, 7 New Zealanders and 2 Brits. Suggest would-be single travellers think carefully before opting for shared hotel accommodation. Our tour guide, Brenda Brooks, was one of the best, as was driver Larue.
Dixieland Tour 7 , Qld, Australia, Oct 2016
Peter was likely the best tour guide we've ever had. His initiative and genuine commitment to ensuring our enjoyment, including extensive knowledge, stories, music and even costumes were first class. Only criticism is the over the top preamble speech that Cosmos makes all their tour guides give re tipping.
Fantastic and stress free trip through the middle of the USA 4 , QLD, Australia, Jul 2016
This was our third tour with Cosmos and it definitely met all expectations. We had a great tour group with a good mix of nationalities and made lasting friendships. Our tour guide Brenda was very informative and our driver John was extremely professional. I have already recommended this tour to friends at home.
