“Great Highlights of Spain and Portugal”
Trip:    Overall Rating: 5/5
Booking with Global Journeys was a very convenient way to organise this trip. All Arrangements worked smoothly. The trip to Spain was an excellent way of seeing a lot in a limited time the group of 47 was large with quite a few Americans so some interesting discussions on the new President occurred at mealtimes. We were fortunate to be there in the spring many flowers both wild especially poppies and cultivated roses at the Allhambra. The Feria in Seville was amazing. To go to Fatima 3 days before the Pope was eye opening. For us the Allhambra was fantastic.

“A Great Experience”
Trip:    Overall Rating: 5/5
This was a great tour. Most of the experiences were exceptional. Could have done with more time in Natchez and perhaps have gone to one less museum in Memphis. Plenty of coverage of civil rights movement but woukd have been good to include something on Underground Railway. All the music related experiences were great and food experiences were excellent. As the bus was not full, it was very comfortable. Tour Director was knowledgeable and went out of his way to make things fun. Excellent group of fellow travellers. This was meant to be a relaxed tour and it was but perhaps there was a little bit too much free time particularly in Nashville.

“Great 16 day bus tour of the UK and Ireland worry free trouble free. Just sit back and enjoy the sights.”
Trip:    Overall Rating: 5/5
Our first coach holiday so we had no pre-conceived idea of what to expect. We got used to travelling with 47 other people, who all turned out to be good fun. Leena our travel guide was excellent, knowledgeable and entertaining. The coach driver Simon was very helpful and an excellent driver - none better. All sights along the journey were interesting and enjoyable and accommodation and food were great. All in all a trip that will never be forgotten. For a hassle free holiday there is none better.

“Total waste of money”
Trip: Trafalgar Tour (HONG)    Overall Rating: 1/5
Four days of a tour that really was only a half day in Hong Kong and a whole day in Macau. We were looking forward to going to the Stanley St markets but only got 50 minutes before lunch and were returned to our hotel by just before 2 pm! when the itinerary said afternoon at Stanley St Markets. I really feel that Trafalgar needs to change the amount of tour days and say what they really are! Arrival day and departure day are not part of a tour! OK, in fairness Macau was a lot better, but it was hotter than I expected and hadn't packed to accommodate the change in temperature, so I strongly recommend that you pack for layers of clothes so that you can be prepared for both hot and cold. I felt the tour director guided us to much as to where we could shop. We visited one shop to buy souvenirs and when I asked to visit a market we were beside as we were looking at the remains of the old church she said it wasn't worth it and we would get a chance later....and the shops we did visit were really not the same thing.

“Quick look at Japan”
Trip:    Overall Rating: 4/5
Nine days is a short tour of Japan, especially as the first and last days are travel days. The tour was well organised and well paced with a balance of planned activities and free time - especially in the centres of Tokyo and Kyoto. The guide was helpful and accommodating with good local insight. The hotels were great with an excellent level of service and cleanliness. The tour had a good balance of activities (sushi making, paper making) and visits to temples and sites. The optional activities were mainly dinners and not well attended by the group. As a family of three (15 yr old daughter), it was a great first tour of an interesting and beautiful country - we were lucky enough to be there during cherry blossom time!

“Enjoyed the trip all the way”
Trip:    Overall Rating: 5/5
Another wonderful trip with Trafalgar, very nice tour. Great sightseeing, history, culture, religious values, food, hotels are comfy, healthy breakfast etc overall very good. Nice mix of fellow travellers, and our Tour Director, Maria Holzamer, is very knowledgeable about ins and outs of the areas. She was on the go efficiently, and of course she presented herself elegantly, fashionable outfit and shoes - bien joué for maria's effort. Local guides were brilliant too, and our driver superb driving skills who took us around and back to the starting point safely. Global Journeys, excellent service, thank you to Hannah Campbell. Will book my next trip via Hannah again. Thanks.

“17 Days Classic China with Yangtze Cruise & Chengdu”
To start with we had a wonderful tour director in Li Gezhou. He gave us an information sheet with advice of things to be aware of on the first day and as the tour went along he always kept us informed with options etc. At all times Lee was there to help and happy to sort out any problems, he is one of the best tour directors I have had and there have been quite a few on all the tours we have done. Beijing was over whelming at first as we had never been surrounded by so many people before. So many cars and people on bicycles and people trying to cross the roads! Even a green walk sign meant nothing! and horn tooting like I have never experienced before - not even in Italy! Nearly drove me batty! After a few days it became part of the norm but there was always something to surprise me and even make me laugh. The hotels ranged from "time to close down" to really top grade. The beds in all of them are hard, but we got use to them. The breakfasts were the same as the hotels ranging from really this is breakfast to wow really is this breakfast?

I managed to climb the first part of the Great Wall. I don't know what I expected but it was amazing, a must do on anyone's bucket list. It was a Chinese holiday so very crowded but I think it would have been crowded anyway considering it is a country of 1.45 billion people, China is a world of its own! Be prepared for crowds wherever you go in China. Also I suggest you need a level of fitness although I wouldn't call myself fit but I did manage to keep up...just! I was really impressed with the shows that we went to so I suggest that you go to them as they were excellent! The lighting and acting etc....don't miss them! The buses and the drivers left a lot to be desired....we felt they needed to think about our comfort and nerves rather than the speed to get anywhere. The state of most of the buses were poor, little or no suspension. We were a small group of only seven so maybe if there were more we would have got bigger better buses. Being a small group had lots of good points to it. We really enjoyed the visit and meal to a family be my guest. China is a place to visit but go with no expectations.

This was the best trip I had due mainly to Tour Director, Driver and my fellow travellers. For travellers who want to see as much as possible in a short space of time this tour is the best there is. However, one needs to be pretty fit as it sets a grueling pace. All the places we visited had something memorable to offer but the Sistine Chapel was the one to remember for me. I am looking for a tour in Eastern Europe preferably with the same tour Director, he was excellent! So thank you Global Journeys!

“Disappointing Trafalgar Tour”
Trip:    Overall Rating: 2/5
Very happy with Global Journeys, Georgie was very helpful and very patient with our booking. Unfortunately we are very disappointed with Trafalgar itinerary! It started with a nice welcome reception... but then it started to go downhill!
The reason we booked with Trafalgar is that we believed they do the research and put the energy to put together something special ! That's why we paid more to get a better service! Unfortunately Trafalgar was not up to standard this time, so many little things that need a great improvement. Every visit seemed to be rushed. We didn't even have a single tour guide for any cities we went to get an in depth history of the town. Very poor itinerary. It was mainly seeing temples.

While we were there there was sumo fighting and also Geisha dancing on and there was not even a mention of it to see if we wanted to have that as an optional or even a pamphlet to see if we wanted to do that on our own time!
I think the tour leader should have this information in advance and share it with the travelers! They are the ones who need to do the research before hand as they are familiar with seasonal programs! Food experiences were ok , till the end where we went to Ninja restaurant and all the waiters were confused! Which made the last night of being together not as enjoyable! On the other hand we truly enjoyed the company of our group mates, that made us really happy to meet amazing people from all around the world :) and that's what we take from this trip :) looking forward to more bookings with Global Journeys.

Our Travel Directors are carefully selected for their knowledge and enthusiasm. From checking you into your hotel room to recommending a local eatery, your Travel Director's aim is to make travelling easy. Maybe you like to be guided every inch of the way. Local Specialists - Bringing Each Destination To Life
Local Specialists - Bringing Each Destination To Life

Seeing the sights isn't enough. You need someone to explain them to you to make them come to life. Someone who won't just give you the kind of information you might glean from guidebooks, but show you how it's done, or supply you with fresh insights and anecdotes to make your guided holiday memorable. Local Specialists are local characters – dancers, archaeologists, geologists, artisans – whose remit is to take you deeper into local culture. So you don't just see what's new and different, you experience it in a way that's fresh and vital.

Authentic Accommodation - Wake Up Somewhere Unique
Authentic Accommodation - Wake Up Somewhere Unique

Some of the hotels we've found capture local culture in a way that's entirely unique; hence the name 'Authentic Accommodation'. Join us for a night's stay at the hotel where JFK proposed to Jackie Onassis. Or get a feel for what it was like to be an old-time Italian king while staying at the Albergo Dell'Agenzia – the former country estate of King Carlo Alberto of Savoy. After all, there's nothing like waking up in a place that has a history.

Be My Guest - Your Invitation To Dine With The Locals
Be My Guest - Your Invitation To Dine With The Locals

Food tastes so much better when it's shared with local people who have a story to tell. Perhaps that's why our Be My Guest experiences are so popular. You'll dine with local families in their homes, learn how to cook regional dishes, and share a glass or two with winemakers at their vineyards; giving you a deeper understanding of their lives and history.

Trafalgar FAQ's

Some of the frequently asked questions Trafalgar receive from their clients
When can I expect to get my travel documents & itinerary?

Travel documents, including any air tickets, tour itinerary, hotel lists, and helpful hints and other information are sent approximately 20 days prior to your tour departure. Your Global Journeys Tour Consultant can organise these earlier if you are travelling before your holiday starts.

How many people will be on my trip?

You'll find an average of 40 to 45 guests on trips throughout Europe, and a maximum of 52 guests on trips throughout the United States and Canada.

Will I have free time?

Each itinerary offers the perfect balance of downtime and discoveries. We also give you the opportunity to tailor your trip with Optional Experiences. You might choose to enjoy some of the best seats in the house at the world-famous Moulin Rouge in Paris. Or maybe take a magical early-morning balloon ride over the Napa Valley. Trafalgar's At Leisure tours offer a more relaxed pace, with later starts and longer stays in each place.

What are the coaches like?

We pride ourselves on having the finest fleet of fuel-efficient, fully air-conditioned coaches – all with reclining seats and on-board restrooms. The high vantage point from your coach's window means you can take in all the glorious scenery, whether it's a vast rural landscape or an urban city centre. We also have on board WiFi.

Are the hotels air conditioned?

We select our hotels for their quality, impeccable service and comfort, with the majority of them having air-conditioning. Few hotels in the northern Alps or Europe have air conditioning due to the colder climate.

Can I book a group of friends?

Global Journeys take the hassle out of booking a group holiday - and we offer some great discounts for five or more people. Groups of five to eight people will receive 5% off the land-only part of their trip, and larger groups will save even more.

What is the single traveller supplement?

If you prefer the privacy of your own room, you can opt for our single supplement. The cost will depend on your trip and can be found in the pricing section of the itinerary. On many of our trips we offer discounts on the standard single supplement. If you'd rather not incur the additional expense, consider our single traveller room share option. We'll accommodate you with a fellow guest of the same gender, on a twin-bed basis.

What if I have special dietary requirements?

We can accommodate guests who are vegetarian and can assist with diabetic, gluten-free and other medically-recommended diets. Please advise us at time of booking. Unfortunately, we're unable to supply meals in accordance with strict religious requirements. We can't provide salt-free, Kosher, Halal, requests for specific dietary supplements such as soya milk, and high protein or low-carb meals.

How much luggage can I bring?

You can bring one suitcase per person with the dimensions of 76cm x 46cm x 25cm (30" x 18" x 10") and weight not exceeding 23kg (50 lbs) due to the limited space on the coach. You can also bring one piece of hand luggage, provided it is small enough to take on the coach and does not have telescopic handles. All baggage handling is provided at no extra charge. One suitcase per person will be brought to your hotel room.

Are tips included?

We'll check you in, look after your luggage and take care of all hotel porterage, tips and gratuities - whether it is for restaurant staff, chambermaids or porters. The option to pre-pay gratuities for the Travel Director and Driver is available. Please request this at the time of enquiry and your Tour Consultant will include it in your quote.

What is Gold Seal Protection?

Gold Seal Protection is designed to provide you with peace of mind. For $99 should you choose to cancel your guided holiday for any reason, prior to departure from New Zealand, Trafalgar will refund your deposit and/or guided holiday payment. Gold Seal Protection must be paid with the deposit and cannot be added at any later date. If you wish for us to include this protection in your quote, please let us know when completing your 'Quote Request'.

Will I need to pack formal clothes?

This will depend on not only your personal preference, but the destinations you're visiting and the time of year you'll be travelling. We'd recommend bringing at least one smart outfit for special evenings.

What are Optional Experiences and when can I book them?

We realise that everyone likes some time to themselves, which is why we've left free time on all of our itineraries. If you want to get the most out of your destination, our Optional Experiences let you tailor your trip. Your Travel Director will tell you about all of the Optional Experiences available on the first day of your trip. Payment can be made by credit card or cash.

Will I need electrical adaptors?

Electrical plugs and outlets differ throughout the world. We recommend bringing a universal travel adaptor that's suitable for the countries you are travelling to.

Will I be able to get laundry done?

Most hotels do offer a laundry service and in some cities Laundromats are also available. However, it's sensible to try and pack enough clothing to avoid having to do laundry, as it can sometimes be costly or inconvenient.

Is there seat rotation on the coach?

Yes, your Travel Director will implement a seat rotation system, whereby all guests will rotate their seats on the coach daily. This allows for everyone to experience the spectacular views from different seats, and you'll have a better opportunity to get to know your fellow travellers.

What if I become ill on my trip and am unable to continue?

Your Travel Director will assist you with a doctor's visit or hospitalisation should you require. Trafalgar has a dedicated Customer Care Department in Europe, or our Operations Department in the relevant country will contact you to offer assistance and advice, coordinate with your travel insurance company and keep in touch until you are able to re-join the trip or return home. This service is included in the cost of your trip; however it is not a replacement for travel insurance, which we strongly advise you to purchase.

Why is my contact information collected when I book?

There may be times when unforeseen events beyond our control impacttravel schedules and potentially disrupt cruises, tours, or packages. These include, but are not limited to, severe weather conditions, acts of nature, and government travel advisories. Under such circumstances, it is critical that Trafalgar be able to contact you immediately and reliably - including nights, weekends, and holidays - to make sure we've informed you of any possible changes to your travel.
